Despite being one of the most crucial structures in your roofing, gutters tend to be neglected by some homeowners. As such, some people may not be aware that they have become clogged by organic debris such as leaves and twigs once it is too late and the signs of water damage have started to manifest on your home. To ensure that your gutters remain functional, they need to be cleaned and maintained on a routine basis. If you would like to make this process less cumbersome, you should consider incorporating techniques to prevent debris from making its way into your gutters, hence keeping them cleaner for longer. Below are some of the different methods of keeping leaves and twigs out of your gutters.

Wire mesh

One of the simplest ways of keeping twigs and other types of debris out of your gutters is by installing a mesh screen on the top of the gutters. This mesh screen will allow water to easily flow from your roof and redirected away from your structure but will filter out large debris. It should be noted though that particulate matter that is smaller than the mesh may pass through the screen. However, this should not be a concern, as this particulate matter will be able to be pushed through the downspout. Nonetheless, this does not mean that you should completely ignore gutter cleaning as fine debris can still begin to accumulate at the bottom of the gutters.

Solid gutter covers

As the name suggests, these are covers made from solid panels that are installed over your gutters. These covers are designed to fit right on top of the gutters and will function to ensure that no debris makes its way into your gutters, as they will be completely sealed off. Solid gutters are especially ideal for homeowners with roofing that would be hard to reach, as you may not have to engage in any gutter cleaning as long as the covers are in good condition.

Gutter guards

Gutter guards are devices that are installed beneath the shingles of your roof. They function to catch any debris that may be washed down from your roof, hence preventing the debris from reaching the gutters in the first place. It should be noted that they tend to be one of the pricier methods you could employ to keep debris out of your gutters. Nevertheless, they are highly durable thus making them a worthwhile investment.
